A significant portion of the Washington Capitals roster has returned to DC over the last few weeks to participate in informal practices at MedStar Capitals Iceplex leading up to the first day of Training Camp on September 12.
But many of these players, and some who still remain at home, are using the Labor Day holiday weekend to do one final trip with their loved ones before the start of the season.
Here’s what your favorite players (and PA announcer) are up to!
The Washington Capitals’ captain returned to DC on Friday, making his debut at one of the team’s informal practices. His first act of the holiday weekend was to have a romantic, wine-filled dinner with his wife Nastya… and his personal trainer Pavel!
TJ Oshie and his recently-revealed-pregnant wife Lauren are back in Minnesota for a road trip. Lauren’s sister Ally is documenting the trip in her Instagram Story. Their first stop was at Lake Superior.

Capitals’ Russians Alexander Alexeyev and Ilya Samsonov are into heavy machinery and stopped by two locations known for their impressive airplanes. The two first-round draft picks, along with Ilya’s wife Maria, visited the Air & Scare at the Udvar Hazy Center and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. “Me and @ samsonov_30 with the plane,” Alexeyev wrote on Instagram.
And yes, Ilya and Alex went on a Space Shuttle ride.
Capitals defenseman Michal Kempny went on a boating excursion in New York City featuring a stunning view of the Brooklyn Bridge. Kempny is rehabbing a hamstring injury and is hoping to be 100 percent by the start of the regular season
Nic Dowd and his pregnant wife Paige are still at home in Minnesota but preparing to come back to DC this upcoming week. Paige snapped a photo of their dog Arlo for her Instagram Story.
Hershey Bears defenseman Colby Williams posted a photo back at home with his girlfriend and pup.
Finally, Capitals PA announcer Wes Johnson is on a road trip himself with his son and made a stop to see Ovie The Bulldog.
