Alex Ovechkin hosts hockey clinic with 40 children during second day in China

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin spent his second day in China skating with 40 young Chinese players.

According to the Capitals, Ovechkin hosted a hockey clinic at a rink in Shougang Park and participated in drills with 12-years-old-and-under youth hockey players. During the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, Shougang Park will serve as the venue for ski jumping.

Here are several videos the Capitals tweeted.

And some photos.

Ovechkin’s co-counselor during the clinic, Peter Zhong, a redshirt freshman from Arizona State University, slid pucks over to the Russian machine for one-timers from his office.

An NHL.com story described the experience for Zhong as a dream come true, who later swapped jerseys with Ovi at the conclusion of the clinic.

The Arizona State Sun Devils are in China to play in the Renaissance Cup, a hockey tournament hosted by O.R.G. Packaging – a metal can manufacturer in China.

Ovechkin stopped by for the hockey tournament and met with Zhou Yunjie, the founder and chairman of O.R.G.Packaging. Ovechkin found out that there are five hockey teams in China and saw a TJ Oshie and Evgeny Kuznetsov jersey on display.

Once he had an opportunity to eat, Ovechkin enjoyed some Peking duck with his personal trainer Pavel, who sat to Ovechkin’s right.

Ovi and Pavel are apparently staying at the Rosewood in Beijing, which has a beautiful view of the city (and its smog). Pavel posted the photos on his Instagram Story.

He also included a video of Ovechkin posing for the media.
