Jack Hughes scores ‘first goal’ as a New Jersey Devil in Development Camp game

First overall pick Jack Hughes has already scored his first goal as a New Jersey Devil and the regular season hasn’t started yet.

Saturday, Hughes hit the back of the net during the Devils’ end-of-week Development Camp scrimmage. After receiving a nice cross-ice pass from a teammate, the USA Hockey Development Program product beat the goaltender stick side.

Devils fans in attendance went wild.

“First goal as a Devil eh?” 2019 third-round pick Michael Vukojevic said to Hughes.

“Yeah, seriously,” Hughes replied.

“It was pretty cool,” Hughes said. “It got a pretty good roar [from the crowd]. First as a Devil. Hopefully, there’s a lot more to come.”

After the games, Hughes showed his appreciation to the Devils fans in attendance by giving his stick away to a very tiny fan in the front row.

The scrimmage completes a busy week for the 18-year-old prospect who wowed fans with moves during a three-on-three scrimmage earlier in camp.

Hughes also signed the maximum allowed for an NHL entry-level contract.

Welcome to the NHL, kid.
