In NHL collectibles news, the licensing agreement between the NHL and OYO Sports has ceased, meaning the sale and production of the mini-figures has been discontinued.
There is no public explanation of why the partnership has ended. OYO has not been active on social media in over four years.
A statement on OYO’s website reads:
OYO Sports is not continuing with its sales and production of NHL items for the foreseeable future, though certain of our retail partners may still maintain unsold inventory.
We appreciate the support of the NHL, the NHLPA, the Frank J Zamboni Company, and the retail partners for our hockey lineup. We will continue to offer special edition items for other hockey teams and colleges, which will be announced on OYOCollector.com. It’s been a pleasure to create unique NHL OYO items for fans. ALL of our items are limited editions, and subject to retirement from production at any time. Please visit our collector blog, OYOCollector.com, for checklists of items produced, announcements, and new items being added to our line.
Many OYO Sports figures are still for sale at numerous vendors, including Amazon. Once vendors’ stock is sold out, the NHL figures will be gone forever.
OYO is still partnering with the MLB, NBA, Indy Car, and college sports amongst other sporting leagues. The OYO Sports company has over $15 million in investments, including funding from Boston Seed Capital and Mandalay Sports Media.
S/T to Sheena Dunn for the heads up.
