Braden Holtby will walk in the 2019 Capital Pride Parade

Braden Holtby and his wife Brandi are massive supporters of the LGBTQ community. Braden has become one of the most visible and prominent athletes in the area to support equality in sports.

The couple will continue their support by marching in the Capital Pride Parade for the third time next weekend.

Brandi Holtby asked her Twitter followers who would be going on Saturday afternoon.

A Capitals spokesperson confirmed that Braden Holtby would be attending to RMNB’s Ian Oland later that night.

Holtby has been named the Capitals LGBTQ-inclusion ambassador by the NHL for three consecutive years and serves as a leader in the locker room and community to educate on diversity, equality, and inclusion. He has auctioned off a custom-designed mask during Hockey Is For Everyone month and raised thousand of dollars for You Can Play.

Holtby received the DC Pride Ally Award for his work in LGBTQ visibility in hockey in 2017 and spoke at the Human Rights Campaign National Dinner in 2018. Holtby also did not attend the Capitals’ White House visit in March.

“In the end I never really came up with a situation where I would feel comfortable going,” Holtby said then. “My family and myself, we believe in a world where humans are treated with respect regardless of your stature, what you’re born into. So I think that’s just where it’s at in terms of this decision. You’re asked to choose which side you’re on and I hope it’s pretty clear what side I’m on.”

Braden and Brandi walked in the parade in 2016 and 2017, but due to the Stanley Cup win, only Brandi walked in the parade in 2018.

The 2019 Capital Pride Parade will be held on Saturday, June 8 from 4:30 to 8:00 PM. It starts at the Dupont Circle Metro station and ends at the U Street Metro station.
