Hit of the year? Junior players go flying into the boards during Memorial Cup game

The 2019 Memorial Cup, an annual tournament that determines the best team in junior hockey, began on Friday.

The Memorial Cup host this year, the Halifax Mooseheads, defeated the Western Hockey League’s Prince Albert Raiders 4-1 in round-robin action. But it was what happened during the game’s first three minutes that has set the internet ablaze.

Raiders defenseman Max Martin sent Mooseheads center Keith Getson flying into the boards with one of the greatest hits you’ll ever see.

Physics wise, I’m not sure how to explain this, but I’ll try. Martin and Getson both counter-hit each other in the shoulder. That force causes them both to go airborne sideways into the boards.

I just.. can’t. stop. watching. this. clip.

Martin falls low. Getson goes high. They land on top of each other like Lincoln logs.

Both players would get up, be totally fine, and not miss a shift. Now excuse me, while I go get an ice bag, because I’m sore just watching this.
