This past holiday season, many Washington Capitals fans were disappointed — disgusted, even — when they went to their local Hallmark stores and saw that the company was selling Sidney Crosby Stanley Cup champion ornaments for Christmas.
The Capitals were six months removed from winning their first Stanley Cup and seeing a ceramic version of Ovechkin’s biggest rival lifting Lord Stanley felt like a kick in the gut. They beat the Penguins in the second round after all.
Well, you guys, I have some great news. Hallmark just announced in their “dream book” that an Alex Ovechkin Stanley Cup champion ornament is coming and will be available for purchase in July.
RMNB readers Abbey McAlister and Mama McAlister first notified us via email of the Ornvechkin and sent us the above photos.
The ornament is already live on Hallmark’s site and will be available to order on July 13.
Here are the specs.
Commemorate the Washington Capitals’ first World Championship victory with this Christmas tree ornament. The celebratory design features team captain and 2018 Stanley Cup MVP Alex Ovechkin hoisting the trophy above his head.
Artist crafted by Robert Chad, this Christmas tree ornament comes pre-packaged in a box for easy gift giving, preservation and storage.
With unparalleled artistry and exceptional detail, each festive and collectible Keepsake Ornament is made for years of celebrations.
From preserving precious memories to commemorating special milestones and interests, there’s a Hallmark ornament for everyone on your gift list.
Hallmark has been your family-owned creator of greeting cards, gifts, gift wrap and more for over 100 years. We take deep pride in helping individuals connect in just the right way.
Plastic Christmas tree ornament is lead-free and measures 3.06″ W x 6.25″ H.
The ornament’s price is $19.99.
The ornament began being designed at the start of the 2018-19 season. Hallmark went through several molds to get the ornament to look just right. The production time is so long due to the high quality of the product so it lags a year, which explains the Crosby figurine this past Christmas.
This is the second Ovechkin ornament Hallmark has produced. The first Christmas figurine was released to the public in 2011 and can be purchased on eBay.
