After killing off approximately 420 consecutive Carolina power plays, the Washington Capitals got swift revenge with YET ANOTHER lovely Nicklas Backstrom goal.
And this one comes with a pretty pass from Alex Ovechin.
Evgeny Kuznetsov’s high-stick, John Carlson’s goalie interference, and Jonas Siegenthaler’s hook resulted in precisely zero goes for Carolina’s power-play unit. Once the Caps returned to even strength, Warren Foegele made a little goof in the neutral zone, sending the puck to Alex Ovechkin, who, you may recall, plays for the Caps.
Ovechkin kicked on the afterburners as Nicklas Backstrom rushed up the other side. With the Canes midway through a line change, the defense was barely there. Alex passed to Nick, and Nick sank it.
Just his fifth goal of the series. A goal-per-game from the Gävle Guy. No big deal.
Backstrom jumped into the arms of Devante Smith-Pelly to celebrate.
The Capitals had put just one shot on goal at that point. Their second shot was pretty good though.
