Greg McKegg leaves game briefly after taking head contact from Tom Wilson

For a moment there, the Carolina Hurricanes went down yet another player. Carolina center Greg McKegg left the game late in the first period after taking a hit from Washington forward Tom Wilson.

Take a look at the hit and tell us what you think. Is this elbowing?

We within RMNB are currently arguing about this. The angle isn’t conclusive, but Wilson’s elbow definitely makes contact with McKegg’s head. The question – and we won’t be able to answer it here but we sure can argue about it until we get dizzy – is if Wilson’s elbow was the point of contact.

The hit itself sure seems shoulder-to-shoulder. Wilson appears to even be pulling the elbow away from the hit. Whatever contact there was might have been incidental, and the the thing that sent McKegg off the ice for evaluation was probaby the, you know, getting his head smashed into the glass.

Put another way:

Your thoughts?

McKegg has returned for the second period.
