Saturday night, the Washington Capitals and New York Islanders matched up in a game that mattered none to the good guys and only little to the bad guys. That’s the great analysis you can expect from CFTC when it’s game number 82.
Nada in the first just like Adam Cole got nada last night on Takeover. Val Filppula opened scoring on a breakaway and added another in the third. Matt Martin empty netter.
Islanders beat Caps 3-0.
- The Caps carried the majority of the play in a rather boring first period. Great stuff from the normal third line, turned second line and the Orlov/Niskanen pairing.
- This current Caps third line of Lars Eller, Carl Hagelin, and Brett Connolly is my favorite bottom-six forward grouping that the Capitals have had since Eric Fehr, Joel Ward, and Jason Chimera had that ridiculously dominant season out of nowhere. So good and so fun to watch.
- I just want it to be known that Pheonix Copley has forever ruined me ever spelling phoenix correctly in my future life.
- The rest of the Metro Division had quite thrilling first periods as the goal updates from those games kept coming in seemingly every 30 seconds. Watching that on Twitter was more entertaining than the Caps and Isles first period.
Gritty is out here living his best life, just wrecking a bunch of goalies during the intermission.
Like I said, one of those wacky nights. pic.twitter.com/y5HmSeobyT

- The second period was also boring and this game definitely looked like a meaningless one for the boys in red. The Isles I think were the better team overall in the period and they did get the opening goal.
- Bret Hart got attacked by a fan while giving his WWE Hall of Fame speech tonight. Like legit attacked, not WWE attacked. Craziness.
- Geological lasagna.
- Just a general take here, if you’re on Twitter 24 hours after a show/event and complain about being spoiled, I have zero sympathy.

- The third was much of the same. Sorry that I don’t have more analysis for you, but man this thing felt like a preseason game. They should have just played with a running clock.
- Nick Jensen led everyone in ice time! That’s interesting.
- Leon Draisaitl better not even think about it tonight. You can have 50 kid, but no further.
- What would happen if the Nationals bullpen went head to head with Chris Davis?
- Could it be the Pens?

This is the final recap of the regular season. I hope you have enjoyed my ramblings and my attempts at indoctrinating you all into becoming professional wrestling fans. You’ll still get your almost daily dose of my nonsense with the morning playoff numbers posts. Go Caps, #Back2Back.
