Last week, video game publisher Ubisoft released Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, a post-apocalyptic first-person shooter set in Washington, DC. The game features a lot of DC-ish landmarks, which is my way of saying there’s a bunch of oblique references to the Caps, and Capital One Arena is a major setting.
In The Division 2, Capital One Arena is called District Union Arena. As reader Matt G. shared on twitter, it’s located exactly where you’d expect, on 7th and F St.

The exteriors are astoundingly accurate. Post-pandemic Chinatown looks a lot like post-Game-5 Chinatown.
The outside of the arena is decorated with banners for the city’s fictional hockey teams, The Daggers. There are men’s and women’s teams.
That face looks like Ovechkin and Backstrom got mixed in a blender to me.
The inside of Capital District Union is a stronghold for an enemy faction called the Hyenas. Here’s a description from a fan wiki:
A loosely organized gang of opportunistic raiders that prey on struggling civilian encampments through violence and intimidation. These hedonistic scavengers take everything they can steal and destroy everything else to deprive their enemies of valuable resources. The Hyenas are led by a council of the strongest pack leaders.
You find some council members inside the dilapidated arena.
There’s a full video walkthrough if you don’t mind spoilers.
District Union – which, by the way, is a fine name, though maybe doesn’t have the partnership synergy opportunities of Capital One – isn’t the full extent of Caps in the game. Kyle shared this screenshot of a custom item: a bobblehead for your character’s backpack. Looks familiar.
Probably way late on this but it seems like @TheDivisionGame has an Alex Ovechkin inspired bobble head for a backpack trophy. @russianmachine pic.twitter.com/NWG2k01QrV

Let us know if you’re playing The Division 2 and spot any more Caps cameos.
