Tom Wilson has become a Bonafide NHL Goalscorer this season, but that doesn’t mean all of his tallies have been pretty.
For instance, Tuesday, during the Capitals’ 4-1 win over the lowly New Jersey Devils, #TomLineTom scored his 21st goal of the season. He muffed it.
It made him giggle. And giggle some more. The entire goal hug was just a Tom Wilson laugh fest.

The goal occurred with 6:32 remaining in the second period. After Nicklas Backstrom carried the puck into the zone, he dropped the puck to Alex Ovechkin, hiding out on the right wing. Ovechkin skated the puck into the high slot, lifting his leg as if he were about to unleash a rocketship. Instead, he slipped the puck over to Wilson near the left dot.
Wilson fired. Kind of. And scored. Barely.
A close up view of the goal shows Wilson’s shot slipped under the back side of Mackenzie Blackwood’s left pad and found the black of the net. Blackwood could not believe it went in.
Wilson had the same reaction, laughing and laughing and laughing some more.
“I was ready to shoot and I was like ‘there’s no way he’s passing it,’” Wilson said after the game. “And then all of a sudden [Ovi] passes it.”
“It was such a good pass, I just threw it at the net,” Wilson continued. “When you’re playing with special players, you’ve got to be ready to shoot. It’s nice when they’re going in.”
Wilson’s goal gave the Capitals the 4-1 lead they would not relinquish.
“We’ll keep pushing moving forward,” Wilson said. “Two points is all that really matters at this point of the year and collecting it as much as we can.”
