A day after getting rocked by the Anaheim Ducks 5-2, the Washington Capitals got off to a great start against the Los Angeles Kings, scoring twice in twenty seconds in the first period.
Alex Ovechkin got the ball rolling, scoring with an Ovi Shot from the Ovi Spot on the powerplay.
He would later score again from the same spot in the second period to extend the lead to 3-0.
At 11:48 of the first period, John Carlson and Ovechkin played hockey’s version of hot potato.
You take it. No, you take it. No, you take it. Okay, I SCOAR.
The goal was Ovechkin’s 41st goal of the season and the 648th of his career. He’s now on a three-game goalscoring streak.
The primary assist marked John Carlson’s 300th apple of his career, ranking him third all-time among Caps defensemen.

Ovechkin later would get his 42nd goal of the season and the 649th of his career with literally the exact same play.
This time, the Great 8 beat Kings goaltender Jack Campbell five-hole.
According to NHL.com’s Tom Gulitti, 10 of Ovechkin’s 13 PPG this season have been scored from the Ovi Spot. Carlson has recorded the primary assist on 17 of the 20 powerplay goals Ovechkin has scored on one-timers from the Ovi Spot over the last two seasons.
John Carlson has two primary assists tonight. His 28 primary assists rank second among NHL defensemen this season (San Jose's Brent Burns: 29).
