The Washington Capitals losing streak has ballooned to seven games and they now have eight days off to recoup and figure out what is going on. The Toronto Maple Leafs 6-3 victory wasn’t the worst game of the losing streak, but that’s not exactly comforting either.
The Caps out-shot the Leafs 44 to 37, but the Leafs out-attempted them at five-on-five 70 to 61.

- Alex Ovechkin scored his 37th goal of the season and with that goal tied Sergei Fedorov for the most all time points by a Russian-born player (1,179).
- The Caps have allowed 29 goals in their last five games. I don’t have to say why that’s less than ideal.
- Adding on to that, during this seven game losing streak the Caps have allowed an opposing player to score a hat trick four times. Victor Arvidsson got the first for Nashville and in the last three games straight, Jonathan Toews, Tomas Hertl, and now Nazem Kadri have done the same.
- The Caps next game comes on February 1 against the Calgary Flames and unfortunately Ovi will be suspended for that matchup.
- I don’t have much more that hasn’t already been said. Try and enjoy this break without Caps hockey because it sure hasn’t been fun recently. But, they’ve risen from much more dire times than this and they’ll do it again.
