Sup, Barold: Islanders beat Caps 2-0

Friday night was Barry Trotz’ first visit to Capital One Arena for a gameday since his then Capitals team won Game Four of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Vegas Golden Knights. Now, Barry took his new squad, the New York Islanders, into DC and got a big ole result.

In spectacular fashion, we got no goals in the first period. In ludicrous fashion, we got no goals in the second period. Josh Bailey opened scoring in the third and serial embellisher Cal Clutterbuck added another.

Islanders beat Caps 2-0.

  • That first period was one of the more boring periods of hockey I’ve seen in awhile. Insert Spider-Man pointing at Spider-Man gif here because the Caps and Islanders at five-on-five basically looked identical. That identicalness equaled intense boredom.
  • Before all that boring nonsense however, came a nice ceremony for Brooks Orpik to honor him playing in his 1000th career NHL game against the Blues. Congrats, Batya!
  • We should also recognize that Barry Trotz was back in DC and also deserves congratulations for somehow forming that rag tag group of dudes on the island into a winning team. The Jack Adams Award should be all his if the Isles end up in the playoffs.
  • Everyone please join in on the #JoeBForEmergencyGoaltender campaign. I’m sure Locker will be the President of the movement.

  • Please dear hockey gods do not match these two teams up in the playoffs. Second period was very much similar to the first. Aka I’ve yawned about fourteen times up to this point.
  • At least the Caps did a really good job at limiting John Tavares’ play. It was almost like he was in another city.
  • How is The Punisher season two? I’m waiting until late tonight to get started on it. Can I get a no spoiler review in the comments from those that have delved into it already? RUSSO!
  • Jon Bernthal is a pretty dope actor, eh? He has come a very long way from Shane “lemme ask you something” Walsh on The Walking Dead. I also really enjoyed his work on the very short lived Mob City. Did you know that he was born and raised in the DMV? He grew up in Cabin John, Maryland where there is an ice rink that I played a couple games of high school hockey in and then he went to Sidwell Friends School.

  • The third period was also boring it just happened to include two Islanders goals so the Caps lost. This is now the Caps fourth straight loss and with this Isles win and a Blue Jackets loss to the Canadiens, the Caps are now third in the Metro and the Isles have jumped all the way to first. Damn you, Mitch Korn you goaltending genius.
  • This game was like when all of your buddies main only Fire Emblem characters in Smash so everyone just does the same moves the entire match. The Marth guy/gal is always the worst, but they think they’re the best. Whoever uses Roy is probably the most average. Ike will win every now and then, but Robin is obviously the not so sneaky favorite. I main Captain Falcon and my secondary is Incineroar because I’m learned.
  • The Isles are now 7-0 in the second game of their back to backs this season. What is this sorcery? Is Pep Guardiola behind the scenes over there?
  • Guys, the Caps have been thoroughly unimpressive for quite some time now. There could be many a thing that is at fault for this, I don’t have the specifics right now, I just know that they’ve looked so very meh, ugh, yikeys.

Next up, the Caps have a nice Sunday afternoon matinee matchup with the Chicago Blackhawks in the Windy City. I bet the weather is going to be just fantastic up there!
