David Pastrnak’s Winter Classic stick features a football field in homage to Notre Dame Stadium

Notre Dame Stadium will host its first ever hockey game on New Year’s Day when the Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks take the ice for the annual Winter Classic. Bruins star David Pastrnak will take the ice with some special equipment.

Notre Dame Stadium is a famed college football stadium, having hosted football games for 88 years. The Winter Classic will be only the second non-football event ever, after hosting a Garth Brooks concert on October 20, 2018.

Pastrnak teamed up with Bauer for a custom-designed stick honoring his home country, Boston, and Notre Dame.

You have to see this.

Let’s break down all the different designs, courtesy of Bauer Hockey:

  • Pasta emoji: In reference to his nickname used by fans and teammates, Bauer included the 🍝 emoji on top of the shaft.
  • Boston & Prague skyline: Just above the blade, on the front of the staff in gold chrome is the Boston skyline. Reflected on the back of the stick is the Prague skyline. These represent his current and former home cities.
  • Czech Lion: Paying homage to his Czech origin, Bauer incorporated the Czech Lion on top of the shaft above the name bar. The lion comes from the Czech coat of arms, which is featured on their national team’s jerseys.
  • DP88: Bauer teamed up with David to design a personalized logo that features his initials, “dP”, and his number “88”. It can be seen in gold on top of the shaft.
  • Football field: In reference to the Winter Classic being played at legendary Notre Dame Stadium, Bauer incorporated a football field’s yard markings along the top half of the shaft.
  • YOLO: a personal favorite acronym, meaning “You only live once”, is written on top of the shaft below the name bar.
  • Winter Classic game info: Information on tomorrow’s game including the location, teams, and date is incorporated on the bottom of the shaft.
  • Gladiator: Gladiator is Pasta’s favorite movie. Therefore, he wanted to incorporate the gladiator mask and a quote from Maximus.
  • Shamrock: In reference to Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish nickname, a shamrock can be found on both the front and back of the shaft above the blade.

This is too cool.
