Following Tom Wilson’s convincing victory in a fight against Jamie Oleksiak, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin exchanged their own fisticuffs — of the verbal kind.
It sure sounded like Ovi challenged Sid to a fight.
With NBC Sports’ Pierre McGuire between them, Crosby and Ovi shouted at one another. “We got action here,” McGuire said. According to McGuire, the transcript went something like this:
Crosby, to Ovechkin: Why don’t you fight him?
Ovechkin, to Crosby: Why don’t you fight me? Stop talking.
There was also some, um, more colorful language audible on the broadcast. Piere did not relay those words.
The passions did not stop there. Just a few minutes later, Ovechkin and Pens defenseman Kris Letang roughed one another up behind the Pittsburgh net, with Ovechkin getting the first jab in. Letang and Ovechkin were assessed matching minors.
Caps Pens. Always fun.
