Travis Boyd’s daughter baked him a cake for his first NHL goal

Travis Boyd got a nice present from captain Alex Ovechkin when Ovi set him up for his first NHL goal, but he got an even cuter present from his daughter Hayden afterward.

Kelsey DeGonda, Boyd’s girlfriend, tweeted that she and their daughter Hayden had made a deal together before the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. If Boyd scored that night, they’d bake him a chocolate cake, his favorite.

Kelsey posted a picture of Boyd with his cake on her Instagram.

Hayden has motivated Boyd’s scoring before at the AHL level with the Hershey Bears. When Hayden was in the hospital undergoing treatment and recovering for an abscess, Boyd tried to score one goal for her–and ended up scoring four.

Mommy and daddy’s world turned upside down this past weekend. Sunday night we had to take Hayden to the ER because her head was stuck, turned to the right. She wasn’t able to move her head out of that position and was in so much pain that we could barely pick her up without her screaming. Sunday night we found out that she had an abscess in her neck, just below her ear. They put her on an IV with fluids and antibiotics for 48 hours in hopes to get rid of the infection but unfortunately, the infection was too far along and our sweet, little girl ended up having surgery Thursday night to have it removed. Surgery went very well and she is doing so much better already! Going on our 6th night at the hospital now and we are more than ready to go home with a healthy girl!! On a positive note, Travis was able to fly to his game tonight in which he was hoping to score a goal for Hayden after THE hardest week of our lives. Not only did he score a goal for her, he scored 4 goals for her. Travis had told me that tonight’s game was dedicated to Hayden. In fact, he said these words to me, “there was a higher power helping me tonight”. We love our family, our friends, and our hockey family that have supported us through this difficult time ❤️ @thehersheybears

Hayden’s relationship with Travis is adorable.

Boyd scored his first goal on December 8–and his second and third in the next two games, as he found great chemistry with the Capitals fourth line.
