Chance encounter: Capitals fan runs into Jakub Vrana at NHL Store

The Washington Capitals are currently hosting their annual mentors trip, where — in most cases — each player’s father joined their son for the team’s two-game road trip in New York City this weekend. With a well-earned day off on Sunday, many players spent their time exploring the city with their pops.

Caps fan Brandon Smith, a member of the New York City Caps Crew, ended up being a benefactor of a rare free moment Jakub Vrana had away from his father Karel. While Vrana was shopping at the NHL Store located at 1185 Avenue of the Americas, Brandon snapped a picture with the Capitals forward.

I need to know. What was V buying at the store?

Also, Brandon gets props for randomly picking out an “Our Year” Stanley Cup champions shirt out of his wardrobe for this moment.

Vrana is one day removed from one of this best games of the season, a two-pointing outing against the New York Rangers where he scored an unassisted breakaway goal and assisted on Brett Connolly’s fourth goal of the season. V has 14 points in 23 games played so far this season – the makings of a breakout season.
