Tom Wilson inspired a new hashtag on Twitter by scoring a goal and getting a penalty on the same play

Tom Wilson‘s first game back from suspension Tuesday night was peak Tom Wilson. He scored a goal, got called for goaltender interference, and inspired a hashtag all at the same time.

Wilson was penalized for interfering with the Wild’s Devan Dubnyk, despite the fact that Ryan Suter initiated contact with Wilson and crashed into his own goalie.

Yes, a lot of the times Wilson is penalized correctly because of what he’s actually done. But sometimes, refs make mistakes and get clouded by a player’s reputation. Fans started riffing on Twitter imaging all the penalties that only Tom Wilson could get called for, as demonstrated by the creative and pun-tastic #TomWilsonCould hashtag. The first use of the hashtag was by Lindsey (@wreckoslovakia).
