Monday during the team’s morning skate, many Capitals players got a kick out of a sign a fan brought to MedStar Capitals Iceplex.
“TJ and Braden, today is my anniversary and I didn’t get a gift for my wife,” Dan, the Caps fan, wrote. “Can I get a stick?? Please help!!!”
By the end of the session, Oshie had obliged and Dan had a gift for his wife Vanessa that she would never forget.

The signed Oshie stick reads “Happy Anniversary!”
I reached out to Dan about the experience and here’s what he had to say.
Sunday night, I floated the idea of going to practice with my wife. We really hadn’t committed to doing anything serious for our anniversary or getting each other anything. I thought it would be fun to create the signs.
Oddly enough Oshie didn’t seem to acknowledge the sign. Ovi saw my wife’s matching one, read it and chuckled when he passed by. Wilson actually read it and one of the coaches saw it and laughed.
I went over to the area next to the press area after practice and I think one of the equipment people motioned over to me.
He handed it to me and said that he had put a Happy Anniversary message on it. Definitely a really cool experience.
Interesting enough we ran into Oshie one year ago on our anniversary at Joe’s Steak and Stone Crab. She was really excited, Oshie is definitely one of her favorite players. My wife’s name is Vanessa and we have been married for 7 years.
From everyone at RMNB, happy anniversary, you two!
