Braden Holtby is a fiery competitor, especially if you come too close to his den.
Thursday against the Canadiens, Charles Hudon learned a valuable lesson: You must keep your hands, feet, and hockey stick outside of the blue crease at all times or a very angry Holtbeast will appear.
Here’s what happened.
Off a faceoff, Hudon made a great play, lifting Michal Kempny’s stick and getting a shot off from just outside the crease. Kempny didn’t appreciate Hudon’s hustle so he bodychecked the Canadiens forward to the ice.
But! As Hudon fell, the blade of his stick got stuck in Braden Holtby’s mask. Holtby did not appreciate the piece of fiberglass in his ear, so he knocked Hudon’s twig to the ice and chucked it to the neutral zone.
Hudon didn’t put up much of a protest and a Habs teammate kindly retrieved his stick for him.
This is not the first, second, or even third time this has happened during Holtby’s illustrious hockey career. Holtby most recently stole a hockey stick and heaved it down the ice during a preseason game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Warren Foegele hit Holtby as he skated by the crease and the Caps goaltender took a souvenir with him.
