The Washington Capitals and Vegas Golden Knights met once again in 2018, but this time was of much less importance than the last. With that, the Caps did bring some of that early June magic to October, downing the Golden Knights 5-2 at Capital One Arena.
The Golden Knights out-shot the Capitals 31 to 29 and out-attempted them at five-on-five 60 to 40.

- Evgeny Kuznetsov‘s fingerprints were all over this win, Will Grigg would be proud. Kuzy ended the night with four points and a Corsica game score of 3.1. In my opinion, there is no player in the NHL, other than Connor McDavid, that is more silky smooth and fun to watch than Kuzy. That was on full display Wednesday night as he carved the Golden Knights up on the power play and at even strength.

- Alex Ovechkin‘s two goal night put him at 611 total for his career and gave him sole possession of 17th place on the NHL’s all time goal scoring list, passing Bobby Hull. Next up for the Great Eight are Jarome Iginla and Joe Sakic who both sit at 625 career tallies.
- The Caps power play is clicking on all cylinders to start the season. The unit was two for four on the night and the team holds a 50 percent success rate on the man advantage over the first three games. Toronto Maple Leafs, who?
- The Vegas Golden Knights are now 1-7 overall and 0-5 against the Capitals since Imagine Dragons played on ice in Vegas before Game Two of the Cup Finals. The curse is real.
- Matt Niskanen grabbed career point number 300 on TJ Oshie‘s game-clinching empty netter. Congrats, Matt. Grab that puck.
- The fabulous Julia Karron, introduced me to this nifty Twitter bot that gives you a bunch of cool information when NHL teams pull their netminder late in games. Here’s what the pull bot had on the Golden Knights last night, it’s cool stuff.
#GoldenKnights trailing 4-2 to #Caps pull Marc-Andre Fleury with 2:08 to go in the 3rd. That's 4:56 later than the statistically ideal time of 7:04. https://t.co/TuY52C6MT5

#Caps score on empty net to increase lead to 3 with 1:55 to go. The #GoldenKnights had less than a 0.68% chance to win before the goal, so it's no great loss. https://t.co/TuY52C6MT5

- Finally, I am now 23 years of age as of today. What’s My Age Again?
