Tuesday night, the Washington Capitals held their preseason home opener against the Boston Bruins. The Caps lost, but it was what was going on off the ice that had fans talking.
Monumental Sports and Entertainment, in the midst of completing a $40 million renovation inside Capital One Arena, debuted new seats featuring functioning cup holders for all.
Several fans also noticed that the Caps updated all of their currently-hanging banners.

The team’s Eastern Confererence banner update, for instance, celebrates the team’s first jaunt to the Stanley Cup Final in twenty years, breaking whatever was remaining of the DC Sports curse. The Capitals defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in seven games to face the Vegas Golden Knights in the championship round. That night was a very good night.
The Caps also updated their Metropolitan Division champions banner too, which marked their third straight division title.
But the fun, emotional banner is still yet to come.
Banner Day!
