Nicklas Backstrom’s offseason is in full swing. The Swede is out golfing in Scotland with fellow countryman Erik Karlsson.
The video, posted by Karlsson on his Instagram account, was captioned “Stanley Bäckström.” After Backstrom takes a swing, Karlsson makes a sound similar to a mix of laughing and woo-ing. He then tries to get the center’s attention by saying Stanley. That has a nice ring to it.
The course is on the land of Castle Stuart, a restored tower house on the shore of the Moray Firth, about 6.5 miles northeast of Inverness, Scotland. The castle stayed abandoned for over 300 years before being restored and turned into a luxury hotel.
The golf course, which opened nine years ago, is located on the seaside of Moray Firth. The course hosted the Scottish Open in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2016.
Karlsson’s name is currently being bandied about in trade talks as he enters the final year of his contract. The Ottawa Senators will likely not sign the defenseman to a contract extension. The latest rumors include a trade to the Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning. The Capitals reportedly had interest in landing Karlsson during the trade deadline.
