John Carlson – the highest-scoring NHL defenseman during the 2017-18 regular season and playoffs – has spent his whole career with the Washington Capitals since he joined the team as a first-round draft pick in 2008. Caps fans were thrilled to learn that John signed a new eight-year contact with the Capitals and will be continuing as a key contributor to the team’s success.
Not only is Carlson an incredible talent on the ice, he and his wife, Gina, give generously to the community around them, and especially to support children fighting cancer. On his day with the Stanley Cup, John is bringing together the community to raise funds for the deadliest form of childhood brain cancer known as DIPG (diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma). This form of childhood cancer impacts hundreds of children each year in the U.S. alone, with a near 0% overall survival.
Note: John Carlson will not be present during entire window of event. He will appear and spend time at the event roughly in the middle of the event, but the time of arrival is not guaranteed.
All proceeds from this event will be used to fund research for a cure for DIPG through Michael Mosier Defeat DIPG Foundation, a nonprofit located in Bethesda. Michael Mosier Defeat DIPG Foundation was created in memory of 6-year-old Michael Mosier who was diagnosed with a DIPG brain tumor his second week of kindergarten and passed away just over 8 months later.
