Shane Gersich and Brock Boeser’s inside joke on social media

On a team full of NHL chirpers, Shane Gersich is going to fit right in.

After playing in his first NHL game Wednesday, Gersich posted a photo on his Instagram captioned “Dream Come True.”

The comments in his Instagram posting introduced Caps fans to a long-running inside joke between Gersich and his former University of North Dakota teammates, including NHL sensation Brock Boeser.

Dream Come True.

What a happy, sentimental Instagram post. NOPE. Boeser and Boston Bruins forward Anders Bjork had to knock this guy down a peg.

After many hours of research, I learned this isn’t the first time the former University of North Dakota roomies have commented on the ginormous size of their monstrous heads.

After Boeser won the NHL Accuracy Shooting title, hitting all five targets in just 11.136 seconds, Gersich retweeted the news with a special hashtag: #DeflateBrocksHead.

The former UND Fighting Hawks teammates, which includes Gage Ausmus, Hayden Shaw, and Rhett Gardner, have been using the hashtag since 2016.

So let’s get this party started for Gersich.
