With five seconds left in the second period, Evgeny Kuznetsov skated in on a semi-breakaway against Jaroslav Halak.
Kuznetsov absorbed a slash to the left wrist from Thomas Hickey before crashing arm-first into the boards.
The team’s talented second-line center would leave the ice and not return. Kuznetsov’s health will be a major storyline going into this weekend.
A few more looks of Kuznetsov's hit into the boards. Looked like he was favoring his arm/wrist.

Upon a closer look at the replay, Kuznetsov immediately shakes his left hand after being slashed in the forearm.
Here’s two other replays.
Kuzy was writhing in pain and, after laying on the ice for a minute, got up and went down to the tunnel towards the locker room, cradling his left arm.
Kuznetsov would leave the game and not return. During the second intermission, the Caps PR announced Kuzy would be “further evaluated tomorrow.”
#Caps Evgeny Kuznetsov (upper body) will not return tonight and will be further evaluated tomorrow.
