Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin returned to the ice for the start of the second period, but he was unhappy. At the end of the first period, Ovechkin was butt-ended in the mouth by Matt Calvert. Calvert was given a match penalty and ejected from the game, but that was not enough for Ovi.
Before the second period’s opening faceoff, Ovechkin skated to the Columbus Blue Jackets bench and had some words with John Tortorella.
