For the second time in less than a week the Washington Capitals and Buffalo Sabres tangoed in some ice hockey action. This time the dance was in DC and just like last time it took a little while for this game to ramp up, but we got the same result.
Evgeny Kuznetsov opened the scoring within the first minute on a semi-breakaway, but we got nothing else in the remaining 19 minutes. Andre Burakovsky added some magic of his own in the second to extend the Caps lead to two.
One of the seemingly 19 Reinharts in the league cut the league in half within the first 15 second of the third. Ovi from his office, you know the deal. Lars Eller empty netter. Ovi added another just for fun.
Caps beat Sabres 5-1!
- Tonight’s game marked the 983rd of Alex Ovechkin‘s career. All of those games have obviously been played in DC, which ties him with Calle Johansson for the most games played in franchise history. Barring injury or other unforeseen circumstances, Ovechkin is primed to play his 1000th game this season. Oh yeah and he also scored his 595th and 596th career goal. Legend.
- Evgeny Kuznetsov was flying all night (four points) and we got the first glimpse of that only 50 seconds into the game. Kuzy beat a couple defenders, froze Robin Lehner with a push through move, and put the Caps up one early. Need more of this Kuzy for the rest of the season.

- The Caps had a lead after one period. That’s new.
- Ice was terrible. My crusade to ban basketball games occurring the day of hockey games continues. Georgetown is horribad anyway.
- Ah the good ole NHL, “surprise you now have a draft pick”. Very MLS of you:
A lot of people ask "when do the Senators have to notify Avs what year's pick they'll give them, 2018 or '19?" The answer is: Ottawa can wait right up until the pick before theirs in this year's draft before letting Avs know

- Andre Burakovsky picked up the puck deep in the Capitals zone and decided to go full-Rambo down the entire ice sheet, eventually sliding one past Lehner to extend the Caps lead. Efforts like these from #65 make all of us wonder why we cant see those moments of brilliance more often. Let us hope this instills even more confidence in the young Swede and he gets even more hot down the stretch. Nine points in his last thirteen games.
- It’s almost like continuous time in lineup has been good for Andre. Maybe one day Jakub Vrana will get to play a couple games in a row.
- Philipp Grubauer is definitely playing better than Braden Holtby right now. He also got to play the Buffalo Sabres twice in one week. That will help.
- A week after Devante Smith-Pelly was subject to racially-charged taunts in Chicago, the Caps honored Fort Dupont coaches before the game. The five coaches lead the oldest minority youth hockey program in North America.
- Caps Game Entertainment playing Judas by Fozzy late in the second period definitely will keep them off The List.

- Karl Alzner and Steven Stamkos had a real life fight. This did not happen in a video game.
