Wednesday afternoon, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced supplemental discipline for three different plays – two of which were from the Caps-Jets tilt Tuesday night.

Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien has been fined $5,000, not suspended, for his dirty slash to the ribs of Jay Beagle. Caps defenseman Madison Bowey was also fined for a hit on Matt Hendricks near the Capitals goal.

Dustin Byfuglien fined $5,000

Late in the third period, Byfuglien tried to impede Beagle’s attempt for an empty-net goal by using his stick as a weapon. Buff struck Beagle in the leg first, but then wound up with all his might and struck the grinder in the ribs. The two-hand slash took Beagle out of the game and was, according to Barry Trotz, “not a hockey play.”

It’s unknown if Beagle is injured or how long he will be out – if at all.

NEW YORK (Feb. 14, 2018) – Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for slashing Washington Capitals forward Jay Beagle during NHL Game No. 873 in Winnipeg on Tuesday, Feb. 13, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 18:32 of the third period. Byfuglien was assessed a minor penalty for slashing.

The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Madison Bowey fined $1,890.68

Meanwhile, Bowey sent former Capital Matt Hendricks to the Jets locker room early after this hit in the defensive zone. Bowey was given a two-minute minor for interference.
