In the same week of his return to Washington, Nate Schmidt also had a mini reunion with former Capitals teammate Joel Ward in San Jose.
Disaster struck in the second period when the two came together in the Sharks offensive zone.

As Ward collected a loose puck and attempted to curl towards the boards, Schmidt hit him in the back, causing The Big Cheese to slam shoulder first into the wall.
Schmidt was immediately concerned about his friend, cradling Ward to a stop and checking to see if he was okay.
Nate Schmidt brought Joel Ward down but stayed with him to make sure he was okay. They were teammates in Washington.

Ward would leave the game favoring his shoulder.
