After years of local Geico commercials featuring Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom and defenseman Mike Green, the insurance company has now pegged Vezina Trophy winner Braden Holtby as one of its spokesmen.
Holtby’s duties include filming commercials and in a recently released ad, Holtby tries to make some incredible saves, but not exactly on the ice.
Holtby’s first attempt is trying to save a document on a computer. While wearing his blocker, Holtby fails to press enter and shows off his fiery temper by throwing the computer to the ground in frustration.
Then, a waitress is shown sliding Holtby’s food order down a bar. Nope. Another epic fail.
The best part is Holtby trying his hand as a lifeguard to, you know, save lives in a pool. Sitting on the stand in full gear, Holtby did not forget to put sunscreen on his nose.
Holtby did not know how to get down whole holding his stick and a lifesaver floatie though. After a quick debate, he handed off some of his equipment to the other lifeguard calling him off for his break.
Also in rotation on TV is a more serious commercial featuring Holtby’s Holtbyisms.
