Brett Connolly nearly shoved off bench as Caps celebrate Jay Beagle buzzer beater

Jay Beagle scored a buzzer beater and it will forever live on in Capitals lore.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, Beags goal was the latest go-ahead goal in Capitals history (59:58), eclipsing the mark set by Alexander Semin on Nov. 6, 2008 (a 3-2 win vs. CAR – 59:49).

Beagle’s teammates were so excited about the pre-bye week W that they almost injured Brett Connolly.

Watch the chaos ensue after Beagle scores.

Let’s zoom in on the bench.

There is so much awesome going on here.

  • Devante Smith-Pelly nearly shoves Connolly, who is sitting on top of the bench, head-first onto the ice. Connolly holds on to the boards for dearl ife.
  • Dmitry Orlov just can’t stop jumping.
  • An unidentified Caps player jumps multiple times up Jakub Vrana’s back while trying to crush the Czech’s skull.
  • Evgeny Kuznetsov loudly bangs his stick against the boards with a huge smile.

Now they’re waving. I don’t know why they’re waving.

After the Caps and Canes would take one last face-off to end the game, Beagle, Tom Wilson, and Brett Connolly each put their gloves on the other’s helmet.

What a fun night.
