The Caps defensemen have come to play tonight. With Matt Niskanen’s third period tally, three defensemen have lit the lamp against the Devils.
In the first period, Christian Djoos started and ended a beautiful tic-tac-toe play.
Midway through the second period, John Carlson lit the lamp on the Capitals power play. A bullet from the face-off circle, Carlson’s shot went to the top corner.
In the third, Matt Niskanen channeled young Djoos’ play. After nice cross-ice passes from Alex Ovechkin and Devante Smith-Pelly, Niskanen put the biscuit in a wide open net.
The Capitals defenseman have a total of five points.
