After Tom Wilson created some havoc while forechecking, the Rangers turned the puck over. Backstrom curled, gathered in the puck, and beat fellow countryman Henrik Lundqvist off the crossbar and in.
The goal was Backstrom’s fifth of the season. He now has 24 points in 29 games.
He also now sits tied for seventh place in Capitals franchise goals with 193.
Backstrom's 193rd career NHL/Capitals goal ties Dave Christian for seventh place on the Capitals' franchise goals scored list.
