Jay Beagle continued the Capitals dominant play of late, scoring 14 seconds into the first period. Beagle’s fourth goal of the season gave the Caps a 1-0 lead over the New York Rangers.
The Capitals are 37-1-5 when The Hockey Dog scores a goal. Their only loss in regulation came on March 4, 2016 against the Rangers.

Beagle lost the opening face-off, but a poor step up in the defensive zone by Kevin Shattenkirk, gave Beagle all the time he needed to bury a goal past Henrik Lundqvist.
It was Beagle’s first career goal against the King. Devante Smith-Pelly gave Beags a big hug.
During the first intermission, Beagle spoke to NBC Sports Washington’s Al Koken about the tally and credited his teammates Steve-o (Chandler Stephenson) and Devo (Smith Pelly).
“It was a great play by the line,” Beagle said. “Steve-o kind of picks a pass off in the neutral zone and it gets over there, their blue line, and Devo makes a great pass on his backhand to me. I just try to get that shot on net. Obviously, I closed my eyes and hoped for the best.”

The goal was one of the quickest goals scored in franchise history.
Jay Beagle opened the scoring 14 seconds into the contest.
The @Capitals record for fastest goal to begin a game is eight seconds, a mark set by Gaetan Duchesne on March 14, 1987 and matched by Alexander Semin on Nov. 11, 2009. #NHLStats #NYRvsWSH pic.twitter.com/AO3BHLPYlF
