Former Capital Justin Williams reached a milestone Friday night at Madison Square Garden.
The three-time Stanley Cup champion tallied his 700th career point, a goal, in the Carolina Hurricanes’ 5-1 loss to the New York Rangers.

After skating down the right wing, Williams ripped a slapshot past Henrik Lundqvist far side to open the game’s scoring.
During the first intermission, Williams found out about his milestone from Fox Sports Carolinas’ Tripp Tracy. The interaction was adorable.

Tripp Tracy: “Did you know you have 700 points?”
Justin Williams: “Is that right? I knew I was close.”
Tripp Tracy: “You got 700.”
Justin Williams: “All right.”
Tripp Tracy: “Why don’t you get 700 in a win my friend.”
Justin Williams: “I hope so. Thank you.”
After the game, however, Williams was grouchy when trying to explain the 5-1 loss.

“All I know is we’ve lost to this team for a combined 11-2 in two games we played them ,” Williams said. “Something stinks. Something’s not right. We need to figure out what it is or we’re just going to be below that cut line like we’ve been for the last few years.
“The game was there for the taking, and we tried to take a shortcut to winning, and we didn’t find it tonight,” Williams concluded.
After leaving the Capitals over the offseason, Williams, 36, is currently on pace to have the third most points of his career (61). Stick has scored 18 points (five goals, 13 assists) in 25 games.
