As part of its celebrations of its 80th year in the American Hockey League, the Hershey Bears will be hosting the Outdoor Classic on January 20th at Hersheypark Stadium. They’ll be facing off against their intrastate rivals, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. To promote the event, the team took some photos in their gear, and let’s just say that they’re a little bit out of place.

Hockey players are usually only seen in full gear on the ice or in the locker room, so it’s a bit odd (and pretty hilarious) to see the guys completely decked out in their pads and skates while standing on a grassy green football field.
Let’s look at these a bit more closely.
First, we have assistant captain Chris Bourque posing dramatically with the Phantoms’ assistant captain, Chris Conner. Bourque is giving the camera a smoldering state as he tries to assert his place as the best Chris in the frame.
Next up are the Bears’ three fearless leaders. Assistant captains Zach Sill and Chris Bourque stand shoulder-to-shoulder with captain Garrett Mitchell, all three looking as if they desperately wish they were on real ice instead of turf.
And finally, goaltender Pheonix Copley stands ready to defend his net from the pucks that could totally glide over the grass with ease.
The Bears also published a video showing Chris Bourque and Garrett Mitchell tossing a football and running around the field on their skates like they were cleats, and not shoes with sharp blades attached to them.
While we’re very excited for the Outdoor Classic, let’s cross our fingers that they have some actual ice for the players to stand on when the time comes around.
