The Capitals named Alex Luey player of the game. They gave him a standing ovation in the locker room.

Alex Luey’s fairy tale night ended the way it started: in the Capitals locker room.

The 13-year-old cancer survivor, who was by Alex Ovechkin’s side during postgame interviews, was honored by the team in one final kind gesture.

A day after winning his first game of the season, Capitals goaltender Philipp Grubauer presented an orange bicycle helmet to Luey as the player of the game. The significance or story behind the orange helmet is unknown.

“Huge weekend for Ovi. He help us a lot,” Grubauer began. “But I’m going to give this to Alex [Luey].”

“YEAHHH,” players screamed in tandem.

The team gave Luey a standing ovation.

The team, clapping loudly, asked the teenager for a speech.

“You guys played great,” Luey said.

The Capitals also named Luey their co-first star of the night, along with Alex Ovechkin.

Hockey is the best.
