Chance The Rapper hosted the latest episode of Saturday Night Light with Eminem as the musical guest. While Pete Davidson’s Staten Island bit and Kenan Thompson’s Family Feud sketch stole the show, Chance The Rapper’s hockey skit, in my book, finished a close third.
The sketch goes like this. MSG’s Knicks correspondent Lazlo Holmes (Chance the Rapper) was forced into duty to cover a hockey game when their regular rinkside reporter, Paul Handley, was out due to paternity leave.
Lazlo knows nothing about hockey, but dang it he tried.
During the second intermission, Chrissy Smith asks Lazlo, “who made the difference in the first period?”
“Definitely the hockey players, Chrissy,” Lazlo responds. “They were the ones who got all the scores and then you got the goalie, wearing every pad in the world and baseball gloves, he’s working very hard too. It is so cold.”
Eventually a Rangers player wanders over to be interviewed.
“Come over here.. dude,” Lazlo says. “Okay, I’m here with… Can you turn around so I can get a name? That’s an S-K-J all next to each other so that’s a NOPE.”
Adding flourishes like “that’s what’s up,” Lazlo even shares a saying he learned.
“As they say in hockey, ‘let’s do that hockey.'”
