The Capitals were bad: numbers for the morning after

The Capitals got absolutely trounced 6-2 by a team that is very bad. I’m going to demonstrate what I thought of their effort levels by copying said levels with this post.

The Capitals out-shot the Avs 30 to 28 and the five-on-five shot attempts were deadlocked 35 apiece, but that doesn’t really tell the whole story. The Capitals were porous and the Avalanche took advantage. Seemingly every goal they scored was easy.

  • The Capitals’ last loss to the Colorado Avalanche before this one came on November 10 of 2013. Alexander Urbom, Aaron Volpatti, and Martin Erat played in that game for the Caps.
  • The Capitals haven’t given up six goals in a loss to the Avalanche/Nordiques franchise since November 29 of 1983. Craig Laughlin was on that team.
  • The Capitals have lost back-to-back games with deficits of three goals or more for the first time since Jan 17 and Jan 19 games in 2014. That’s right in the midst of adios Adam Oates era.
  • Goalie Philipp Grubauer has zero wins in five starts and seven appearances.
