National Guard member proposes to girlfriend after participating in ceremonial puck drop

The Hershey Bears had a very good night on Saturday. Decked out in some patriotic jerseys to celebrate Veterans Day, the Bears won 6-1 over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Along with their special jerseys, the Bears also commemorated Veterans Day with a ceremonial puck drop which included National Guard member Kenneth Durbin.

That’s when things got really cute.

Just after dropping the puck in front of Bears captain Garrett Mitchell, Sargeant Durbin took the mic, dropped to one knee, and popped the question to his girlfriend Jamie, who had joined him on the ice.

It was adorable. Kyle Mace of Chocolate Hockey has the photos.

As the newly engaged couple walked off the ice, they were greeted with two jerseys, the nameplates of which jointly said “Just Engaged.” Both of the jerseys were adorned with the number 11 as a reminder of the day that the two got engaged. They say that 11/11 is supposed to be lucky, so let’s hope that it’s a sign of all of the amazing things to come for the adorable couple.

Congratulations to the happy couple!
