The beat-up Capitals, who have several players inching towards a return, now have another skater sidelined with what appears to be a minor injury.
Rookie defenseman Madison Bowey was a late scratch Tuesday night against the Buffalo Sabres. The Capitals announced the news right before puck drop. According to NBC Sports Washington’s Joe Beninati, Bowey took warmups before the game.

Bowey briefly left the Capitals’ game 3-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes Monday during the second period. After conferring with the team’s trainer, Bowey left the ice and went back into the locker room.
He returned for the third period and was given six shifts for a total of 3:11 TOI. In total, Bowey skated 11:41 total on the evening.
Bowey’s final shift of the second period revealed only one troublesome moment.
Bowey (no. 22 in red) appears to block a shot (top left of screen) and seems to favor his left leg as he skates off the ice.
Aaron Ness took Bowey’s spot in the lineup Tuesday.
10:15 update: After the game, Trotz said Bowey “tweaked something” and holding him out was precautionary.
Trotz said Bowey could've played the game, but they decided to be cautious with this being the second game of a back-to-back. Said he "tweaked something" in last night's game.
