The goal was made possible by a heads up pass by Devante Smith-Pelly, who found Ovechkin wide open in the slot.
Ovechkin beat a leaning Robin Lehner for his 13th goal of the season. The goal gives Ovechkin sole possession of second place in NHL goals. He trails Nikita Kucherov by one (14).
Ovechkin was pumped after the tally. After kissing his glove in honor of his late brother, Ovechkin roared like an angry mama bear after stumbling upon someone getting too close to her cubs.
