The Arizona Coyotes finally won for the first time this season. It took 12 games.

To start the 2017-18 season, the Arizona Coyotes lost their first 11 games, totaling only 1 measly standings point through the first four weeks of the season. But dang it, they closed the month out strong!

On Monday night, the Coyotes finally got in the win column after defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 4-3 in overtime. After taking a 3-0 lead, the Coyotes surrendered three straight goals before Alex Goligoski won the game with 14.4 seconds left in overtime

Did Arizona act like they’ve been there before? No. They celebrated like they won the Stanley Cup. They mobbed each other like they just beat the Russians during the Miracle On Ice. This is classic.

Let’s summarize some of the awful from this game.

  • The Coyotes had a 3-1 lead going into the last minute of the game. They then gave up two goals to the Flyers in less than 40 seconds, forcing overtime.
  • In OT, the Coyotes got a four-on-three power play. They did not score.
  • The win snaps the second longest losing streak ever to start a season
  • The Yotes, who now have three standings points, remain in dead last in the league. They trail the Edmonton Oilers (7), by four points. The Oilers have two games in hand.

The weird thing is the Coyotes were supposed to have hope this year.

Arizona finished last season with 70 points, making them the fourth worst team in the NHL, but they made several big changes during the offseason. The Coyotes hired a new coach (Rick Tocchet) and made some big moves to better their team in hopes of being more competitive.

Instead: this.

Let’s look at what Twitter had to say after Arizona’s first W.

Congratulations on the win, Arizona. You won. You are a winner. At least for one night.
