The Capitals continued their western swing by matching up with Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. A trip to comeback city was also in order.

Patrick Maroon opened the scoring off of a rebound created by McDavid driving to the net on Taylor Chorney. Adam Larsson got some puck luck to make the game 2-0 as his shot ramped up off of Jay Beagle’s stick. Devante Smith-Pelly scored his first as a Capital and allowed the Caps to salvage something from the first twenty minutes.

Lars Eller one-timed the tying goal past Cam Talbot on a delayed penalty call. We were deadlocked after two periods at two.

Evgeny Kuzetsov struck early to complete the comeback and then after some more magic scored the insurance goal to boot. Jay Beagle tallied the empty netter.

    Caps beat Oilers 5-2!

    • First thing first, Alex Ovechkin is just awesome. Him helping a homeless man in Edmonton stay warm by buying him all sorts of winter apparel is something we would be surprised by if Ovi hadn’t shown during his entire career that he is just a really cool, hundo human. I would totally die for him.
    • I personally think people mistook Braden Holtby playing like himself, instead of that guy we got in Vancouver, for the entire team playing better. I think this was another okay road showing, maybe slightly better, but with just more puck luck and outstanding goaltending. I am also very sick and very cranky, so that may be clouding my judgment.
    • Lots of cool points notes tonight. Lars Eller is finally in the goal column for the year, Madison Bowey is on his first-career point streak, and playmaker extraordinaire Ovechkin had three assists.
    • This was easily Eller’s best offensive game of the young season. The Caps definitely need more production from the bottom six forwards, especially if this team decides to never get healthy. Those three minor penalties though, not needed.

    • Ovechkin had his 300th career multi-point game, which makes him just the 2nd Russian-born player ever to do so. Former Capitals forward Sergei Fedorov is the other.
    • Evgeny Kuznetsov can be pure magic. What Harry Potter house would he be in, commenters?
    • Anthony Peluso got a jersey for the first time this season, confusingly for some over Nathan Walker. He wanted to acclimate to current Caps culture so he quickly took two minor penalties in the first period.
    • Devante Smith-Pelly scored his first goal as a Capital after being promoted to the top six. DSP didn’t look out of place and that’s honestly all I was hoping for, but he surprised me by also adding a goal. Good on ya, son. Hundo hundo.
    • John Carlson was great via my eye test, playing eleven thousand minutes again. He has been a steady force since Matt Niskanen went down. Don’t @ me Elyse.
    • Taylor Chorney is one of the elders on the Caps blueline and he’s still probably the worst back there.
    • It could always be worse. The Arizona Coyotes are now 0-10-1 and now on pace for 7 standings points this season.

Joe B suit of the night

The Caps stay out west for a date with the Calgary Flames next. It’s a back to back, so you can pretty much just stay right here.
