The mess that has been Wednesday’s Caps-Pens game got a bit more lively with seven minutes remaining in #rego when Christian Djoos, playing in his first NHL game, set up a goal for Alex Ovechkin, playing in his 925th.
It’s Alex Ovechkin’s eighth goal of the season, and it’s made this game unbearably tense in the closing minutes.
After a pass from Backstrom, Djoos and Ovechkin are in the thick of it, right in front of Murray’s net. Djoos somehow manages to get the puck to Ovechkin, who uses soft hands to hit the back of the net.

Ovechkin scored hat tricks in his first two games of the season before going devastatingly and agonizingly goalless in his third. Sportsnet reports that no one has had a start this hot since Marleau in 2013.

Meanwhile, Djoos’ first ever NHL game is also a two-point night. He scored earlier.
