Alex Ovechkin is the first player to score consecutive hat tricks to start a season in 100 years

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is one of the greatest goal-scorers of all-time and Saturday he accomplished something that no other player has done in 100 years.

ONE HUNDRED YEARS.

Ovechkin scored consecutive hat tricks to open the season. NBC Sports Washington announced the only other players to do so were Cy Denneny, Joe Malone, and Reg Noble in the NHL’s inaugural season of 1917-18.

Ovechkin scored all six goals in consecutive periods – in the third period against Ottawa and the opening minutes of the first period against Montreal.
