Ovechkin scored consecutive hat tricks to open the season. NBC Sports Washington announced the only other players to do so were Cy Denneny, Joe Malone, and Reg Noble in the NHL’s inaugural season of 1917-18.
Ovechkin scored all six goals in consecutive periods – in the third period against Ottawa and the opening minutes of the first period against Montreal.
