Former Capital Brooks Laich just tallied his first NHL goal in 545 days.
Signed to a professional try out, Laich scored 12 seconds into overtime to lead the Los Angeles Kings over the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2. It was Laich’s preseason debut with Los Angeles.

Laich’s tally was courtesy of another former Capital. As Golden Knights defenseman Nate Schmidt peeled around the net, he lost possession of the puck to Alex Iafallo. The 23-year-old rookie forward found Laich wide open in front of the net for the game winner.
Laich’s last goal came March 31, 2016 in a regular season game against the Buffalo Sabres.
Laich finished the evening with two shots in 16:39 of ice time. He also won 61% of his draws.

Laich still faces an uphill battle to make the team.
Laich has the best chance, but that's still at the most optimistic 50/50.
